How Does Lip Augmentation Work?
At the beginning of a fat transfer treatment, we will start by using liposuction to extract unwanted fat from the stomach, hips, thighs, or buttocks. Next, the fat is placed in a centrifuge and purified. After the centrifuge stops, we place the fat into thin needles and inject it into your lips. We repeat this step until reaching the desired fullness. Because some of the fat may reabsorb, Dr. Eagan overfills the lips to account for this eventual loss. Over time, we can perform multiple fat transfer treatments, but your results will last for several years before you need a follow-up appointment.
What to Expect After Lip Augmentation
After your treatment, Dr. Eagan will provide detailed aftercare instructions and discuss when to schedule your next follow-up appointment. For the next few days, your mouth will likely feel tender or sore. Additionally, the area where we extracted the fat will feel sensitive. To address any inflammation and discomfort, we recommend ice packs and over-the-counter pain relievers. Generally, your results should last about 6 – 12 months. Lip augmentation with fat transfer should give you lasting outcomes; however, aging may impact your results over time.

Lip Augmentation FAQ
How much does lip augmentation cost?
Costs for augmentation will depend on a number of factors, including whether you are getting dermal fillers, a fat transfer, or implants. During your initial consultation with Dr. Eagan, she will create your treatment plan before calculating your costs. New Orleans Plastic Surgery takes several payment methods, and we can help you locate low-interest financing to make your treatment easier to afford.
Can I get the lips of a specific celebrity?
Many patients come in and request the full, sexy lips of an actor or actress. Bringing in photos of lips you like can help Dr. Eagan understand your goals, but it can be unrealistic to get the exact shape and appearance of someone else. At your consultation, Dr. Eagan will listen to your goals before talking about your options (a fat transfer, implants, or dermal fillers) to augment your lips. From there, she will work with you to craft your custom treatment plan.
Should I get implants, a fat transfer, or fillers?
Based on your specific wants, Dr. Eagan will help you decide between dermal fillers, implants, and a fat transfer for your augmentation procedure. If you're unsure about what you want or nervous about surgery, injectable fillers might be a better option. You can get comfortable with Dr. Eagan and decide how much volume you would like before moving on to lip implants or a fat transfer. In your initial consultation, Dr. Eagan can explain the benefits and drawbacks of each of your choices, so you may choose which one you want.
Do lip implants look fake?
Lip implants are made with a silicone material that is designed to feel and look natural. With her years of training, Dr. Eagan inserts lip implants so your results will look natural but beautiful. During your initial consultation, she will discuss the size and shape of lower and/or upper implants to meet your needs and goals. After a few months, the implants will settle into their final position, and the swelling from the surgery will be gone so you can enjoy your results.
Is lip augmentation reversible?
Typically, most patients are very pleased with their lip augmentation. Although, if you're not happy with your results, you may opt to have your lip implants taken out. If you are uncertain about lip implants, Dr. Eagan may recommend dermal fillers since they are less invasive. With injectable fillers, the gel solution will slowly absorb into the body over time, which means that your lips will naturally return to their normal appearance.
